33 Journeys began with a broken arm and an unexpected gift — the chance to slow down and discover service.
In second grade, Hasini found herself having to step back from her sports and activities after a scooter accident. During that time, her dad took her to his Rotary events, where she handed out candy at parades and planted trees with strangers who soon became friends. At first, service was just something she did. But over time, it became something she felt.
In sixth grade, she led a fundraiser to build a water tank for an orphanage in India. When she saw photos of the children using it, smiling and splashing in the sun, she understood service in a new way: as a force that transforms both giver and receiver.
During the isolation of the pandemic, she began to wonder if others had felt that same transformation. So she reached out to the Rotarians who had embraced her when she didn’t even know what service met, and asked about their service projects.
33 Journeys is a celebration of service — a reminder that every act of kindness matters, and that each of us has the power to change lives, including our own.
Our mission is to ignite a deep appreciation for the transformative power of service. We believe in empowering individuals to make a difference by providing them with meaningful stories that demonstrate the effect service can have on us. We aim to integrate service into the fabric of everyday life, fostering a culture where making a positive impact becomes second nature to all.
Our vision is to make this book a welcoming guide for anyone seeking fulfillment through giving back. We want to shine a light on great acts of service through stories and, most importantly, to help people build a strong, lasting connection to serving others throughout their lives.
